Wetlands are often seen as wasteland: places that are reclaimed and transformed into development or other uses. Since 1900, more than 64% of the wetlands have been lost due to drainage and renovation, and most of the rest have also been degraded. At the same time, the natural environment that relies on fresh water is also greatly reduced. Due to the disappearance of wetlands, people’s happiness is also affected. As human demand for water, land and food increases and climate change continues to increase, wetlands are under tremendous pressure.
